AMINO ACIDS
The Building Blocks of the Body
Amino acids are to protein, like individual blocks are to a stone wall. Because protein is made up of amino acids, they have been called the building blocks of the human body. Our muscles, cartilage, bones, organs, skin, hair, hormones, neurotransmitters and enzymes are all constructed from amino acids. There are approximately 80 amino acids occurring in nature, 22 of which are necessary for proper growth and functioning of the human body.
Neurotransmitters: A natural chemical in the brain that transmits signals between the nerve cells and the brain.
Precursor: A vitamin, mineral, amino acid etc that is used to manufacture another natural product of the body, such as a hormone, neurotransmitter, or even a vitamin.
